Annie Andrews, a mother of three from Mount Pleasant and a doctor, confirmed to The Post and Courier she plans to launch her Democratic campaign against U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in 2022 on November 8.

Andrews will be the first Democrat to announce their run for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District. Mace currently faces three opponents in her 2022 GOP primary.

The pediatrician at the Medical University of South Carolina said she was inspired to run based on "the failure of our elected officials to care about the kids and families of the district" and took a swing at the current Republican leadership.
